How payments work

Last updated: June 2026

This page explains, in plain terms, how money moves when you use Workpay. Workpay provides software for managing project-payment workflows. Payments are processed through Stripe.

1. Stripe processes the payment

When a customer pays, the payment is processed by Stripe on a secure, PCI-compliant checkout. Workpay does not process card payments directly and does not store card information. Workpay is not a bank, wallet, payment gateway or escrow provider.

2. What Workpay does

Workpay provides the software layer around the payment: the project, milestones, progress submissions, customer approvals, revision requests, a shared activity record and documentation. Workpay provides workflow and documentation rather than legal escrow.

3. When a milestone becomes eligible for payout

For Milestone Payments, a milestone becomes eligible for payout once it is approved according to the project workflow. Eligible funds are then paid out to the vendor by Stripe.

4. Settlement and bank timing

Payout and settlement timing depend on Stripe settlement schedules, account verification, risk/compliance checks and standard bank-processing times. Daily payout processing does not mean instant settlement.

5. Who delivers the service

The vendor is responsible for delivering the underlying service or project. Workpay does not deliver the service and does not guarantee project quality, delivery or outcome.

6. Refunds and disputes

Refunds and disputes are raised through Workpay's documentation workflow or by contacting support, and are ultimately subject to Stripe, card-network, bank and applicable-law rules.

Important notice

Payments are processed through Stripe. Workpay provides software for managing project-payment workflows and is not a bank, wallet, payment gateway or escrow provider.
